West Ham United to be sweating on Simon Adingra transfer after new image emerges

West Ham United may be forced to shelve their transfer interest in Sunderland's Simon Adingra.

With Joel Veltman's free agent signing finally getting West Ham's summer recruitment drive started, a busy final few weeks of the window could lie ahead.

Nuno Espirito Santo is sure to want a number of further additions made to his squad, with the capture of another winger sure to be a priority after Crysencio Summerville's departure.

Adingra's name has been strongly linked to West Ham this summer, with the 24-year-old now back on Wearside after spending the second half of last season on loan with Monaco.

The Ivorian international scored three goals and provided two assists in 17 games for the French giants, but is facing an uncertain future on Wearside.

A potential big-money signing for West Ham, London Stadium chiefs won't like what they'll see from a concerning image of the winger that emerged on Friday.

What has Simon Adingra been captured wearing that could end West Ham pursuit?

There will be many West Ham fans desperate to see Adingra signed this summer, as he's got some top pedigree on his CV.

Having starred for Brighton in the Premier League as well as shining in French, Danish and Belgian football respectively, he could be a class above at Championship level.

But, Adingra may not be going anywhere fast anytime soon, as a worrying image of him is circulating on social media.

The winger is understood to have picked up a knock in Sunderland's recent friendly with Wrexham, in which he came on as a second-half substitute.

As of right now, it's unclear how serious his injury is, or whether Sunderland are just being particularly protective of him.

But if this is a major problem for the Ivorian, then he could be facing an extended period of time on the sidelines, and that may well end West Ham's interest in signing him for this summer at least.

So, just how good was Adingra for Monaco last season, and do his underlying numbers suggest that the Hammers should continue to explore a summer move for him regardless of his injury status?

How Adingra was amongst Ligue 1's best in 2025-26

Adingra only signed for Sunderland last summer from Brighton, but he struggled to hit the ground running on Wearside.

Because of that, a loan exit for the second half of 2025-26 was commissioned for him, and that took him to Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

His five goal contributions in 17 games marked a solid return for him, but when you peel back the curtain even further, his underlying production makes for even more impressive reading.

As per FotMob, no left winger in Ligue 1 last season averaged more touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes than Adingra's 6.90 last term.

On top of that, he also ranked in the leading 1.8 percentile of his positional rivals for his 1.25 possessions won in the final third per game, as well as placing in the top 3.7 per cent for his 2.40 successful dribbles per 90.

Adingra was also amongst the top-performing players in his position on a per game basis for goals (0.31), shots (2.30), assists (0.21) and recoveries (6.27), showing just how much of an impact he made for Monaco.

Clearly then, Adingra would have every chance of being a superb player for West Ham in the Championship, and so perhaps the Irons should look to continue exploring a deal for him right now regardless of the severity of his injury.
