Arsenal academy defender Luis Brown has confirmed his exit and is now expected to sign a professional contract with West Ham, according to Jeorge Bird.

Brown posted on Instagram with a simple "thank you" message to signal the end of his time with the Gunners, and Arsenal youth blogger Bird said that sets in motion an expected move to the Hammers.

Followed on X by Fabrizio Romano, Bird has previously reported that the 18-year-old has been in training with the Hammers, and confirmation of Brown leaving the Emirates now paves the way for him to sign a professional contract at the London Stadium.

Having not been offered a professional contract at Arsenal, Brown will likely join up with the Irons' under-21 side, to go out on loan or receive first-team minutes next season.

Brown to become first of many West Ham signings this summer

West Ham bringing 18-year-old defender Brown to the club could be the starting pistol for a plethora of arrivals in the coming transfer window, with the squad set to undergo a massive overhaul.

Julen Lopetegui is expected to replace David Moyes in the managerial dugout, and he reportedly has already given the club several areas to target before the start of next season.

Brown, adept at both left-back and centre-back, will provide a versatile level of cover in those positions and could see his prospects boosted by the expected departures of Aaron Cresswell, Ben Johnson and Angelo Ogbonna.

With many centre-backs linked though, Brown will have to bide his time before being given a first-team chance by Lopetegui, but the rise to first-team prominence of Declan Rice, who went in the opposite direction from West Ham to Arsenal last summer, will no doubt inspire him.

A summer of change is afoot at the London Stadium and Lopetegui has plenty on the itinerary over the next few months, but in Brown, he may already have a reliable young defender on the books before he's even stepped through the doors at West Ham.
