West Ham United receives Nayef Aguerd transfer approaches amid fears over personal terms
Nayef Aguerd’s personal terms are putting interested clubs off submitting formal bids for the West Ham United defender, according to Sean Whetstone.
The Irons-focused journalist posted on X (6 August) to state that while the Hammers have received “several inquiries” for Aguerd this summer, none have led to formal bids being made.
That’s due to the interested clubs not believing they’ll be able to agree on personal terms for the 28-year-old Moroccan international, despite Aguerd reportedly being interested in a move to Atletico Madrid [CaughtOffside, 22 July].
West Ham transfer ambitions may be hindered by Nayef Aguerd stance
Julen Lopetegui’s rebuilding of the Hammers squad left behind by David Moyes has gone into overdrive in recent days, with three new signings announced within as many days at the London Stadium.
While Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez will all add considerably to Lopetegui’s side, none of the trio are defenders.
The backline is the area which needed the most clear improvement this summer – given Aguerd and co conceded 74 goals last season – and ex-Wolves captain Max Kilman will be a big part of the answer.
However, Lopetegui has made clear his intentions on finding a new partner for Kilman in the Irons’ defence, with the Spaniard happy to let both Aguerd and captain Kurt Zouma leave the club.
Given the difficulty the Hammers have had in getting Aguerd off the books [Foot Mercato, 21 July], they’ll be hoping the Moroccan lowers his personal terms and demands in order to move him on this summer.
Keeping Aguerd in the fold should no deal be agreed isn’t the end of the world, but the transfer fee and wages freed up by the his exit would allow Lopetegui more leeway to further strengthen his defence.
In other West Ham news, two of the Irons’ star players could be subject to bids from one of the Premier League’s richest clubs.
