Kalvin Phillips: Fresh Man City transfer story emerges hours after West Ham United controversy

Leeds United intend to make a bid for West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips if they are promoted to the Premier League, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The British newspaper reports [31 March, page 65] that Leeds are willing to pay Manchester City £30million for the England international in a big-money transfer.

The report adds that City intended to offer Phillips to West Ham on a permanent basis in the summer in a deal that would involve Lucas Paqueta.

However, the 28-year-old has badly struggled since arriving at London Stadium on a short-term deal in the January transfer window.

Leeds United hope to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City

Bringing in Phillips from Manchester City midway through the season was considered a massive coup from West Ham’s perspective.

The midfielder may not have been getting playing time at the Etihad Stadium, but he showed what he was capable of during his time with Leeds.

However, through that lack of minutes and a lack of confidence, Phillips has really struggled since joining the Irons.

His terrible loan spell continued in the 4-3 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday (30 March) when giving away a penalty kick.

While that decision was harsh, it seems as though Phillips is averaging one big mistake a game at the moment, leading to a controversial incident after the game at St James’ Park.

Keeping him on permanently is therefore now out of the question, especially when you consider the fee Man City will likely be holding out for.

If Leeds are prepared to hand over £30m for their former player, then all the best to them.
