West Ham United must sell-to-buy new attacker as transfer demands emerge

West Ham United must sell to buy this summer if they want to sign Steven Bergwijn, according to Telegraaf.

Writing on their website (13 July), the news outlet report that the Hammers are keen to sign the Netherlands international on a permanent deal, with Ajax holding out for between £21.4m and £25.7m to let him leave.

However, despite having a long-standing interest in the forward the Irons must sell before they can buy after dealing with Financial Fair Play issues.

West Ham financial situation a concern?

Tim Steidten spoke to the press at the start of the transfer window when Julen Lopetegui was officially unveiled as manager of the club, and he claimed that the club’s financial situation was good.

However, it these reports are to be believed then that may not be the case and the Hammers could be forced to sell before they buy.

The signings of Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman have set the club back around £70million so far this summer, but there are several areas still in need of bolstering.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the transfer window plays out now, but this is something to keep an eye on for sure as the club narrow down their targets for key positions.
