West Ham United make contact over Aleix Garcia as Fabrizio Romano drops Friday morning update

West Ham United have made contact over a potential move to the London Stadium for Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist posted on X [7 June] with the latest on the 26-year-old, who has just faced the chop from the final Spain squad for Euro 2024 with German champions Bayer Leverkusen also in the frame.

Hammers technical director Tim Steidten is leading the recruitment charge this summer as Julen Lopetegui looks to persuade his compatriot to work under his stewardship.

Romano shared: “Aleíx Garcia, out of Spain squad for the Euros… now set to decide his future with Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham pushing.

“Bayer Leverkusen, leading the race since April offering [Champions League] football.

“West Ham made contact to present their project with Lopetegui involved.”

West Ham chase silky Spanish midfielder Garcia

West Ham United will know they are up against it with Garcia, having seen the midfielder at prime age just reach the Champions League with Girona and potentially be offered the same incentive with Leverkusen under a hero of his, Xabi Alonso.

But the fact the Hammers are throwing their hat into the ring signifies the ambition shown by the board in East London as they look to kickstart their new era.

Garcia made 40 appearances in all competitions as a mainstay midfield man for Girona, unsurprisingly now attracting attention from across the globe.

He was very highly rated as a youngster, playing four Premier League matches for Manchester City in the 2016-17 campaign.

During a career in which he has clocked up some miles, Garcia will now be seeking a bumper contract with consistent European football – if the Irons can convince him of the project over the coming years, they may land their man.

In other West Ham news, a move for Fabricio Bruno may not be entirely off the cards.
