West Ham United make approach to sign ‘exciting’ Burnley star Wilson Odobert
West Ham have joined the race to sign “exciting” Burnley forward Wilson Odobert as a replacement for Said Benrahma, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon [4 February] that the Hammers and Brighton are interested in the 19-year-old winger, with the former already approaching the Clarets with an enquiry, presumably over a possible summer deal.
Odobert has been catching the eye at Turf Moor this season despite Burnley’s very poor results, with the Clarets stranded in the relegation zone with 13 points from 23 matches.
Burnley ace is exciting transfer prospect for West Ham
David Moyes is certainly strapped for choices when it comes to the attacking third of the pitch. With Pablo Fornals and Benrahma departing London Stadium at the end of the recent transfer window, the Hammers had little time to find replacements.
Al Ittihad’s Jota and Ibrahim Osman from Nordsjaelland were possible signings before both deals fell through due to different reasons. It was an extremely frustrating window for West Ham.
The only addition to the squad was Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips on a six-month loan, adding an extra option to the midfield.
With the top-four spots in the Premier League to compete for, and Europa League success to play for, West Ham’s lack of depth could be a great cause for concern as the season continues.
It was showcased how much the team depended on the attacking outlets of Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus when all three were unavailable for West Ham’s FA Cup replay against Bristol City, losing the match 1-0.

With Fornals and Benrahma now gone, the Hammers are even more desperate for reinforcements. The London side have been extremely unlucky with injuries this season, and if that bad luck continues, the lack of signings in January could come back to haunt them.
There is even a lack of youth choices to fall back on, with Moyes refusing to use Divin Mubama more than a rotational squad player despite his energy and obvious talent.
