West Ham United hit red tape in £5m transfer to sign Manor Solomon
West Ham United have hit a wall in their pursuit of Tottenham winger Manor Solomon this summer.
With the competitive season only days away, the Hammers have finally entered the market.
Nuno Espirito Santo was no doubt delighted as Joel Veltman sealed his move to the London Stadium after leaving Brighton.
It was a real coup, and Solomon could have made it a double dose of excitement for the Irons.
Everything appeared to be on track, with West Ham leading the race to sign Solomon ahead of Premier League interest.
But, Tottenham have revealed some late red tape that could scupper any potential deal coming.
What has happened in Manor Solomon transfer push?
Solomon was eager to seal a permanent exit from Spurs, and that helped West Ham in their pursuit.
But at the very final hurdle, it could all crumble.
David Ornstein has reported that West Ham talks to sign Solomon are currently off due to financial reasons.
West Ham want to pay £5million, but won't agree on possible bonuses for Spurs should they earn promotion.
After Solomon fired Leeds to the Premier League from the Championship last year, he has previous success.
Why West Ham must find Manor Solomon breakthrough quickly
There are several options on the table right now.
Fiorentina want Solomon again after his loan there last season, but it's clear that West Ham are a preference.
If not, the Hammers will enter the season with Jarrod Bowen as their only senior winger available.
That is not acceptable, with Keiber Lamadrid nowhere near good enough to make an impact in the Championship.
Tottenham and Solomon clearly want to part ways, despite his success on a pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand.
So, if West Ham want him that badly, there could be a compromise made to get a deal over the line soon.
Transfers are never officially dead in the water, all it takes is for one side to make a slight change and it could be done within hours.
This is certainly one to watch in the coming days, but don't expect it to happen before West Ham take on Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup.
