West Ham United: Fabrizio Romano shares Kalvin Phillips update as Manchester City stance emerges
Manchester City are yet to set an asking price for West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The England international has struggled for form since arriving at the London Stadium in the January transfer window and clashed with supporters following the Hammers’ Premier League defeat to Newcastle.
Some have suggested City will be looking for £30million to sell Phillips this summer, but transfer specialist Romano has revealed the Premier League champions will be open to discussions over his transfer fee.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column (3 April) he said: “It has been a tough few months for Kalvin Phillips at West Ham since making the loan move to London during the January transfer window as things have not gone to plan for the player who just wanted to play more football.
“Man City’s plan is to sell the midfielder permanently this summer and they hope to receive a good proposal and are open to offers. There have been reports of a £30m transfer fee but I can tell you guys that the price tag has not been decided yet.
“It’s still too early to mention interested clubs but for sure Man City will be open to discussions.”
Will West Ham United sign Kalvin Phillips permanently in the summer transfer window?
It is clear that Manchester City want Phillips off of their books during the summer transfer window, but it isn’t as obvious that the Hammers will be at all interested in signing the England international permanently.
Phillips’ loan move has been nothing short of a disaster so far and it seems unlikely that David Moyes and or anyone in charge at the London Stadium will be desperate to make the midfielder’s stay permanent at the end of the season.

Perhaps there could be a conversation to be had if City were willing to lower their price, but for those talks to be held, Phillips has to improve in the coming weeks to show that he has something to offer before the end of the campaign.
Hopefully, the 28-year-old’s form will improve for his sake and West Ham’s and with a good run of form he could force his way into Moyes’ long-term plans. But that sort of streak couldn’t feel further away at the moment.
