West Ham United eye move to sign Everton ace Demarai Gray amid Carlos Borges twist
West Ham have discussed the possibility of signing Everton winger Demarai Gray despite Fulham reportedly being close to signing him, according to Ryan Taylor.
The Daily Express journalist tweeted on 1 August to “keep an eye on” the Hammers potentially making a move for the Jamaica international after Fabrizio Romano earlier reported that the club’s bid to sign Manchester City forward Carlos Borges had been hijacked by Ajax.
The Irons could face tough competition to land the the 27-year-old, who Rio Ferdinand referred to as an “unbelievable find” for the Toffees earlier this year, as The Sun reported on 1 August that Fulham had agreed a deal to sign him.
Uninspiring
Although Gray has proven in recent years that he can be a very good Premier League player, this would be a pretty uninspiring deal for the Hammers to pursue.
Everton are a club that have struggled over the past couple of seasons and they are willing to let him go this summer, so what does that really say about him?
The Sun report details that the Toffees are willing to let him leave if they can find a suitable replacement, with Fulham agreeing a deal to sign him.

But Taylor said there hasn’t been anything finalised between the two clubs yet as the Merseysiders are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of £10million.
That is a relatively modest fee for a player in his prime years, but he only scored four goals in 33 league appearances last season and it isn’t really as exciting as landing a promising talent like Borges from Man City.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has been tipped to be the first PL manager to be sacked next season.
