West Ham United deal almost done for James Ward-Prowse while another deal is non-starter

West Ham were never close to signing Denis Zakaria as a deal for midfielder James Ward-Prowse edges closer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Sky Sports Italy journalist reported on 10 August that the Hammers held talks with Juventus in June over signing the Swiss midfielder, but that they quickly left the conversation.

He said the Irons now have a different focus and a deal to take Ward-Prowse to the London Stadium is “almost done” after a fee was agreed on 9 August with Southampton for the 28-year-old.

Close

It looks as though Ward-Prowse is on the verge of signing for the Hammers after they agreed a fee worth a reported £30million for the Saints captain.

The potential deal for Zakaria, however, sounds like it never really got off the ground and it looks like he’s now heading to Ligue 1 side Monaco.

David Moyes will be delighted to be closing in on a deal for the England international after he has been a long-term admirer of the midfielder and placed him high up on his list of transfer targets this summer.

Ward-Prowse will offer excellent delivery from set-pieces, while he is also known for being a workhorse in the middle of the park.

He brings a wealth of experience from his time at Southampton and he could prove to be a big voice in the dressing room as the side looks for new leaders following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal.
