West Ham United continue talks for Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri after opening bid rejected - ExWHUemployee
West Ham United and Chelsea are closing on an agreement for Emerson Palmieri, despite the club’s opening £13m bid being rejected according to ExWHUemployee.
The Hammers have turned their attention to the Euro 2020 winner as the answer to their left-back issues and are in negotiations with the Blues about getting a deal done this week.
And while an opening £13m bid was turned down, Ex told his Patreon [August 16] that a deal is “close to happening” for the Italy international.
“In other positive news I am told that whilst the initial offer for the Italian international Emerson was turned down, we are still in talks with Chelsea and that an agreement is said to be close to happening,” he said.
This is a deal that seems to be moving quickly and West Ham fans can be delighted at the calibre of player they seem to be bringing in for a relatively low fee.
Emerson spent last season on loan at Lyon and played against us in the Europa League quarter-finals, and his dynamic style clearly impressed David Moyes.
For a player with so much top level experience, a fee of under £20m is usually quite hard to come by especially if they’re coming from another Premier League club so the board deserve credit for this deal.
If the club is able to get it done before the weekend fixture against Brighton it would be a real positive too considering the defensive issues at the club currently, and would give the boss a great headache to have.
This is a deal that would bring quality and competition into the squad and should raise the levels among teammates, which can only be a positive.
