West Ham submit official £13m bid for Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri

West Ham United have submitted an official offer for Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri according to a report by The Sun journalist Jack Rosser.

The Hammers are in the market for defensive reinforcements after starting the season with two defeats against Man City and Nottingham Forest, with left back seen as a priority position to bolster.

After chasing several options over the summer Moyes has now moved for Chelsea outcast Emerson to fill the gap, with Sky Sports reporting that discussions are underway for a £13m deal.

Now The Athletic say a £13m bid has been submitted for the Italian international, who hasn’t made either of Thomas Tuchel’s 20-man squads for the first two Premier League games of the season.

Emerson was part of the Italy squad that won Euro 2020 and spent last season on loan at Lyon in Ligue 1.

Great business

Chelsea have got a really deep squad full of talented players that would start at a lot of clubs across the league, and Emerson certainly seems to fit into the category.

He has two years remaining on his contract at the club meaning Chelsea don’t have to sell, but he would come to the London Stadium with far more chance of playing regularly.

Aaron Cresswell has been the leading left-back at the club for a long time, but he’s past his best at this stage of his career and Emerson certainly has the ability to play in a back four and also as a wing-back in a five.

His pace, attacking instinct and delivery would add a new dimension to the West Ham attack and would be excellent for the way they want to play.

Now with a £13m bid placed, the fee is likely to get a little bit higher but ultimately it would represent fantastic business and a great left-field option to improve the squad and strengthen the team.
