West Ham transfer update leaves Jeff Stelling in disbelief live on talkSPORT
Evan Ferguson joining Everton over West Ham United in the winter transfer window would be surprising, Jeff Stelling says.
The talkSPORT host believes the 20-year-old would have the best chance of thriving under his former boss Graham Potter at the London Stadium.
Stelling was in disbelief to learn that the Irishman could join the Toffees before 3 February, as he felt the striker would struggle at Goodison Park.
Speaking on talkSPORT (28 January, 6:27), when Shebahn Aherne said Everton look like being the centre-forward’s next destination, the 69-year-old responded: “I’m shocked that you said Ferguson is expected to go to Everton. I’d be staggered – staggered – by that.
“If he has the option of going to West Ham, with his old boss Graham Potter, who got the best out of him, or a club who with the best will in the world have seen centre-forwards struggle since the days of Duncan Ferguson, I’d be really surprised. But who knows?”
West Ham should beat Everton to Evan Ferguson transfer
The Hammers and the Blues are seemingly in need of a new number nine before the end of the winter window.
Potter will be without Niclas Fullkrug for a considerable period as the German international picked up another injury recently.
Michail Antonio is also on the sidelines after his car accident, leaving the English manager to experiment with Lucas Paqueta as the centre-forward.
West Ham have done well with the Brazil international as their striker as he put in an impressive performance away from home in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday (26 January).

The Irons still evidently need to reinforce their attack before the end of the ongoing transfer window, as they need to add more goals to their ranks.
David Moyes is also facing an injury crisis in attack at Everton, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti unavailable.
Potter handed Ferguson his Brighton debut, and it will be interesting to see whether the English manager can lure him to the East London club in the coming days.
In other West Ham news, a move has been made to sign Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli.
