West Ham have been linked with Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, but they will now face competition from Newcastle United.
Newcastle have now opened talks with Villa to sign the 24-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract, and this could rule West Ham out of the race for the midfielder.
Villa could let Ramsey go as he has not yet agreed to a new deal, and it remains to be seen whether the Hammers will make an offer for him.
West Ham bid for Mateus Fernandes
West Ham have now made a bid for Southampton star Mateus Fernandes, but a £30 million offer has been instantly rejected.
It now appears that West Ham will have to offer over £50m to convince Southampton to sell the 21-year-old, and this seems unlikely to happen at this stage.
While it may be encouraging that a bid has been made, the slow activity in the transfer market will only hold Potter back.
