West Ham have already strengthened several key areas of their squad, but they are not done yet this summer at the London Stadium.

The Hammers had problems at both ends of the pitch last season, but are looking to rectify that for the impending campaign.

Conceding goals was a real issue for the Irons, but West Ham have signed Mads Hermansen in a bid to aid that problem.

Now, Graham Potter's side are making moves to improve their midfield in Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini.

West Ham make enquiry for Pellegrini transfer

West Ham ended pre-season with a 1-1 draw with Lille before claiming victory in a penalty shootout.

Now, attention will turn to the Premier League, with the Irons travelling to Sunderland on Saturday.

Hammers supporters will be itching to see their new arrivals in action, and El Hadji Malick Diouf could be a key West Ham player this season.

However, the London club still have one eye on the transfer market as there is pressure on Potter to improve on a miserable campaign.

  • The Irons were the sixth-lowest scoring Premier League team last season
  • Only five clubs conceded more goals than the Hammers

Now, West Ham have inquired about Italian international Pellegrini, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (11 August).

Potter's side have asked for information about the 29-year-old and are therefore evaluating his name in the midfield.

What would Pellegrini bring to the London Stadium?

Pellegrini should be a name known to West Ham supporters, given his long career in Italian football.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Roma and has made over 300 appearances for the Serie A side.

The 29-year-old left I Giallorossi permanently in 2015, but they re-signed him two years later for an increased fee.

Pellegrini has always been a creative influence in the Italian capital, although his numbers were down last season.

Furthermore, the Roma man is versatile and has played as a number eight, as a deep-lying playmaker, and as an advanced number 10.

The Italy international, capped 36 times, was the Serie A club's captain last season, but now that role is to be shared among several senior players.

With that decision in mind, he could be about to leave the country where he has spent his entire career.
