West Ham talent set for for out-of-window exit as finances revealed
West Ham United are set to lose another academy ace in an out-of-window move.
Transfer season is now long gone as the Hammers moved to revamp their squad.
Things have certainly worked out so far with the likes of Joel Piroe, Arne Engels and Divine Mukasa making a positive impression.
Nuno Espirito Santo has found a settled side and it is now fighting at the very top of the Championship.
That will have a knockdown effect elsewhere at Rush Green as the pathway to first-team action becomes smaller for academy talents.
Moves away have become more common in recent weeks, with yet another name making a move elsewhere.
Who is set to leave West Ham on loan?
Things haven't necessarily been easy for young players since the arrival of Nuno.
Chances have been few and far between, even for the most highly rated academy products.
Many have taken the chance to move on loan to pick up some much needed senior minutes.
It now looks as if under-21s captain Regan Clayton is going to follow suit.
The West Ham Way reported on Thursday that the left-back is set to join Scunthorpe United.
A temporary deal looks ready to go through as the 21-year-old will reportedly spend a month with the National League outfit.
The Iron are said to be covering a part of his wage while he's there.
Everyone will wish Clayton the best while away from E20, but questions will soon need to be answered.
What could happen to Clayton upon West Ham return?
There is no hiding from the fact that the Hammers will be hoping to see the best of the defender with Scunthorpe.
If he is able to do that, it will make for an interesting return.
He has already spent two spells in non-league with Braintree Town and Dagenham and Redbridge, but hasn't been brought back by either.
A positive spell in the National League this time around could prompt a further loan, potentially into the EFL.
It does feel as though at 21, his West Ham chances are increasingly slim, so this could be an audition to earn himself a permanent move in the near future.
There will be close attention paid to his progress as he takes another step away from Rush Green.
Clayton has a point to prove, so it will be interesting to see if he can make a name for himself.
