West Ham ready ‘one final attempt’ to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini as Roma stance made clear

West Ham are desperately trying to bolster their squad ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Hammers have already had the holes within their squad exposed on several occasions during a disastrous start to the new season, and Graham Potter already finds himself under severe pressure.

Jarrod Bowen has now angered West Ham fans by tearing off the captain’s armband following an incident with a supporter at the end of Tuesday night’s frustrating Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves.

Further additions feel like a necessity for the East Londoners ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, and they are now eyeing a desperate final attempt to land Lorenzo Pellegrini.

West Ham in fresh contact over Lorenzo Pellegrini, Roma want to sell

West Ham have already made an approach for Pellegrini this summer, but their efforts have been in vain so far.

The E20 outfit have been unable to convince the 29-year-old to complete a switch to the London Stadium, but they are now about to launch a desperate last-minute approach to sign the midfielder.

Potter’s side will make “one final attempt” to land Pellegrini “in the next few hours,” according to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport.

They are understood to have made contact with Roma’s Director of Football Frederic Massara through intermediaries, and are preparing to raise the wages on offer to the player in order to try and seal a move.

Pellegrini’s contract in the Italian capital is due to expire at the end of this season.

Roma have made it perfectly clear that their former captain is unlikely to get a new deal, and as such, they are looking to move him on as quickly as possible.

Lorenzo Pellegrini would be a good signing

Guido Rodriguez’s likely West Ham exit could be about to open the door for Pellegrini to join the ranks in E20, and that is certainly a trade-off that they would be willing to take.

The Roma star is a much more progressive midfielder than the Hammers’ man, and while Rodriguez is slightly stronger defensively, Pellegrini’s additional quality on the ball is certainly needed at the moment.

Potter’s men are struggling to carry any sort of threat in the attacking half, so the addition of a player who is capable of creating like Pellegrini would certainly be a welcome one.

The only slight concern will be as to whether West Ham can convince the player himself to make the move, if they can manage that, then there is seemingly nothing standing in their way.
