West Ham push for Evan Ferguson transfer as Dharmesh Sheth shares new update

West Ham are still pushing to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson before deadline day, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

According to the Sky Sports journalist, in formation relayed by Sky’s transfer blog (29 January), the Seagulls are open to letting the 20-year-old Republic of Ireland striker to leave either on a permanent transfer or loan before 3 February with the Hammers seeing him as their “primary target”.

However, reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and at least three other teams in Germany’s top flight are also interested in a deal for Ferguson.

West Ham face Evan Ferguson transfer fight

It is a poorly kept secret that the Hammers are looking for a forward to bolster Graham Potter’s front line before the winter window slams shut on Monday.

With Michail Antonio unavailable long term, and Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen also on the sidelines, there is a clear need for the Irons to add some firepower before the the deadline passes.

Ferguson has been consistently linked with a move to the London Stadium throughout the transfer window, but there has been no shortage of suitors for the 20-year-old and seemingly that competition will see the fight for his signature go down to the wire.

Given the outlay they made in the summer for predecessor Julen Lopetegui last summer, it might be that West Ham have to box clever to get this deal done.

But it is certainly one to keep an eye on as the close of the window draws ever nearer.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have received the green light to sign another attacker before the window shuts.
