West Ham pursuit of Abdul Fatawu could finally spell end for Jarrod Bowen
West Ham United are keen on signing Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City this summer.
Transfer business is likely to be coy until after the World Cup, with the Hammers in need of lots of work.
Several players will almost definitely move on from the London Stadium, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes among the most likely.
The latter seems destined for a move to a European giant, while both Summerville and Bowen have attracted interest from the Premier League.
West Ham's stance on Bowen has been clear; He's not for sale.
But their pursuit of Fatawu suggests otherwise.
Will Abdul Fatawu replace Jarrod Bowen?
There have been suggestions that a move for Fatawu would be with the view to him replacing Summerville, though it would make very little sense.
One is a left-footed right winger, while the other is a right-footed left winger.
If a move happens, the Leicester star would arrive at the London Stadium as a right winger.
Given the interest that Fatawu has attracted this summer, his next move will be to a club that can offer him assurances over gametime, and if Bowen were to stay, he simply wouldn't get that.
And so for the Hammers to be so heavily linked certainly suggests that they are expecting an exit for Bowen, despite saying otherwise.
It would be quite remarkable if West Ham could keep Bowen in the Championship, though the chances are looking increasingly slim.
How much would Fatawu cost West Ham?
Given the way his form dipped towards the end of last season, West Ham must take caution with a move for Fatawu.
They can't afford to fall into the trap of overpaying for League One players, and as per The Standard, they may not have to.
It was reported that the deal involving the Ghanian would be at a "cut-price" value.
As for what that it is, it remains somewhat unkown, though some unverified rumours across social media suggest a fee somewhere in the ballpark of £15million.
At that price it may be a risk worth taking for the Hammers.
