West Ham news: Nayef Aguerd agent could be behind international release amid transfer twist

ExWHUemployee has allayed concerns that West Ham-bound Nayef Aguerd has suffered an injury while on international duty with Morocco.

Aguerd, 26, is still expected to undergo a medical with the Hammers after he was released from the Morocco squad sooner than initially planned.

Writing via his Patreon account on Sunday (12 June), reliable Hammers insider Ex reported that he’d been told by his main source that Aguerd has “hopefully” left the Morocco set-up to avoid an injury in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia on Monday (13 June).

It is understood that “the deal was very much on the cards to happen after the international games” and this still looks to be the case.

ExWHUemployee adds that Aguerd’s “withdrawal from the national team is not something that the club have instructed but could be a move that the agent has advised”.

Phew

It still looks as though Aguerd should be good to sign for West Ham in the coming days.

We have a very impatient bunch of fans when it comes to transfers and even though a lot of them probably hadn’t heard of Aguerd until a few weeks ago, there was a meltdown on social media about the move potentially breaking down or being held up over injury fears.

Unless Aguerd had suffered a very serious injury, it’s not going to stop his move to West Ham.

What could stop the move is whether or not an underlying issue that hasn’t previously been spotted is brought up.

As ExWHUemployee pointed out, this is something that held up a deal for Said Benrahma but the winger still joined the Hammers from Brentford in the end.

Aguerd should be a solid addition to the centre-back options.

Will he start ahead of Angelo Ogbonna in the upcoming 2022/23 season when the Italian’s fit? That remains to be seen.

However, you’d imagine that with the money being spend on him, he’ll join Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma – or both – in David Moyes’ regular defence.

In other West Ham news, a medical has been scheduled for another player to join the Hammers in just over a week.
