West Ham medical scheduled for Nayef Aguerd in coming days

Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd is expected to undergo a medical with West Ham in the coming days, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable Hammers insider reported on his Patreon page on Saturday (11 June) that the Hammers have wanted to wait until Aguerd, 26, finishes his international duty with Morocco before finalising a move.

Morocco’s final fixture this summer takes place on Monday (13 June) and after that, medical checks will be done “to see that he is fit to pass before putting the finishing touches to the deal”.

ExWHUemployee adds that the Hammers can try to change deals or pull out of them at the last minute but a move for Aguerd “has been quite advanced for a while but still needs completing”.

Getting closer

Once this deal is done and dusted, we hope to see West Ham turn their attention towards signing a new centre-forward because since the end of the 2021/22 season, we haven’t seen much going on in that area.

Yes, we need a player like Aguerd to come in and yes, we’ll be happy with the signing of the Morocco international.

However, a new striker has been a top priority for what feels like forever now and David Moyes and co cannot ignore that this summer.

Michail Antonio has served West Ham very well.

West Ham

He’s our all-time highest goalscorer in the Premier League but we saw this season that the Jamaica international can have quiet spells that seriously hurt the team’s chances of winning.

Antonio has a lot of strengths and there aren’t any other strikers like him in the Premier League.

But he needs someone to compliment him, who can come in and replace him when his form drops or at least come off the bench for him when he’s not playing well.

We failed in January to sign a new striker and that saw us fail to win the Europa League and fail to finish in the top six in the Premier League.

West Ham missed a massive opportunity in January so let’s hope they’ve learned from that mistake.

In other West Ham news, a medical has been scheduled for another player to join the Hammers in just over a week.
