West Ham make final decision on £10m Sorba Thomas signing

West Ham United have been touted with a move for Sorba Thomas this summer.

The 27-year-old Stoke City winger has proven himself to be a quality player at Championship level for a number of years now.

He joined Stoke from Huddersfield last summer, and scored 10 goals as well as providing 11 assists in 45 second-tier appearances last term.

Thomas spent time in West Ham's academy as a youngster, but left at 16 to join non-league side Boreham Wood.

Since then, he's flourished into a classy and versatile player in the EFL, and would be a player pretty much every Championship manager would want.

However, a return to West Ham has been strongly mooted over recent weeks, as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to make some deadline-busting additions.

Which Premier League side now want West Ham-linked Sorba Thomas?

Now firmly in the prime of his career, Thomas is the sort of player who could make all the difference for a promotion-contending side.

As per Alan Nixon via Patreon on Monday, however, Premier League newboys Hull City have now entered the race to sign him.

Nixon claims that Hull want him to fill the void down their left flank, which is where he predominantly plays for Stoke.

However, the report also claims that West Ham were indeed keen on signing Thomas, but instead opted to acquire Manor Solomon instead.

As a result, the Hammers now appear to have dropped out of the Thomas sweepstakes, opening the door for Hull to get a deal done.

Nixon claims that Stoke will be holding out for north of £10million for the Welsh international if a move is to be agreed before the 1 September deadline.

So, how do Thomas and Solomon's numbers from their most recent Championship campaigns compare, and does it suggest West Ham have made the right call?

Why West Ham won't be losing sleep over Thomas

It's fair to say that Nuno wouldn't be disappointed to have either one of Thomas or Solomon in his West Ham dressing room.

Both are top players in the Championship, and so Hammers chiefs will be more than content with the signing of the latter.

Solomon last played in the Championship in 2024-25, when he helped Leeds United win the league that year.

Thomas, of course, turned out in this division last term with Stoke, but he played 45 times compared to Solomon's 39 in 2024-25.

As per FotMob, Solomon's most recent Championship campaign saw him average 0.35 goals, 2.31 chances created and 0.41 assists per 90 minutes.

In comparison, Thomas registered 0.23 goals, 0.25 assists and 2.07 chances created per game in 2025-26.

On top of that, Solomon had a higher shots per game (2.07 to 1.33), shot on target (0.86 to 0.57) and successful dribbles (2.42 to 0.87) than Thomas did.

It's important to add that Thomas put up these numbers in a Stoke side that finished 17th last season, so they're very impressive in their own right.

However, Solomon's data suggests that West Ham may well have the better player on their hands.
