Inside the Sorba Thomas transformation that may be behind West Ham interest
Sorba Thomas has been linked with a move to West Ham.
The Welsh international enjoyed a successful season with Stoke City last campaign in the Championship.
Now, with the Hammers set to compete in the second division, they may need players who are used to the demands required.
Thomas, who has spent the majority of his career in the Championship, could be a useful acquisition in that regard.
However, an admission from the winger back in 2024 has showcased how he has transformed as a player since.
And that could be behind his recent rise in form, leading to the Hammers to cast their eye on the forward.
Why Sorba Thomas’ mentality shift could make him a different player for West Ham
Thomas had the best season of his career in 2025-2026, where he scored 10 goals and got 11 assists.
It was a fantastic return for the winger, who was playing for a side that ultimately finished 17th.
With those talents, Thomas could certainly excel in a much better side and with an expectation for West Ham to be competing at the top of the Championship, it could be a good fit.
The Daily Mail have reported that West Ham have entered talks with Stoke over Thomas, although those enquiries are at an early stage.
While Thomas proved himself to be a player capable of both scoring and helping his team, he has not always been like that.
Thomas was originally a selfish player, something he admitted to via BBC Sport in 2024.
He stated after earning a loan move to Nantes: "I needed to be a better team-mate. It's not always about 'me, me, me'. Sometimes, I can use the team to make me look better, and the team can use me to be better too."
Upon his return, Thomas was sold to Stoke, and his transformation has been clear to see, with West Ham waiting in the midst to be the latest beneficiaries of that.
The qualities Sorba Thomas could bring if West Ham decide to make a move
As the future of Crysencio Summerville continues to rumble on, the likelihood is that the Irons will need another winger.
When it comes to Thomas, he would provide the Hammers with plenty of output.
Not only did he pick up 11 assists last season, but Thomas also managed to create 20 big chances and maintain two key passes per game as per Sofascore.
Overall, whoever would be leading West Ham's front line whether it is Taty Castellanos or Pablo, they would certainly enjoy playing alongside a player of Thomas' qualities.
