West Ham in talks over Crysencio Summerville exit as initial bid fee revealed
West Ham are looking to move on their stars this summer as they prepare for life in the Championship, with Crysencio Summerville among those expected to leave.
Summerville sits on that list, having been a major reason the Hammers even had survival ambitions in the first place.
As a result, the 24-year-old will play a part at the ongoing World Cup for the Netherlands - his first major tournament.
"I like those kinds of players, players who are reliable in their football," said Dutch manager Ronald Koeman at the end of the season, and that is exactly what Summerville is.
Blessed with pace, quick feet, and the desire always to want to make something happen, the wideman proved vital for West Ham's survival bid.
Ultimately, though, a summer exit is now on the cards, with Italian giants Roma preparing an offer.
Roma to push along deal for Crysencio Summerville
Joining the club in the summer of 2024, it took Summerville a while to get up to speed at the London Stadium after tearing apart the Championship with Leeds.
This past season, though, he burst into life, with seven goals and five assists across all competitions, while he developed into a real difference maker under Nuno.
However, he is likely on the way out already, given West Ham's current standing in English football.
As reported by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, there have been talks between the two clubs over a deal worth around £26million.
The Hammers are said to be after a fair amount more, but the situation at the London Stadium may mean they have to take what they can, with little time before pre-season begins for Nuno's squad.
Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested, though personal terms between Summerville and Roma are not expected to be an issue.
West Ham may be given no room for negotiation with Summerville
As mentioned, the Hammers may just have to take what they are given for Summerville at some point.
As is the case with Mateus Fernandes, Taty Castellanos and more, the Irons are not exactly in a position where they can demand sky-high fees.
Exacerbating the issue is the fact that the groundwork needs to be laid for what is hopefully just one season in the second tier.
But to ensure that happens, the recruitment needs to be spot on - something else that cannot take place as envisaged until certain names are out of the door.
West Ham will want more for Summerville, as they will Fernandes, but they do not have much room for negotiation given their precarious predicament.
