West Ham contact Evan Ferguson agents as Brighton decide on transfer

West Ham have approached Evan Ferguson;s agents after Brighton decided to make him available for loan in January, according to TEAMtalk.

The online outlet reported on 2 January that the Republic of Ireland international is keen to play in London and has the desire to play at a “bigger club”.

The Hammers have made an approach to the 20-year-old’s representatives and face competition from the likes of Leicester City for the striker who looks set to leave the Seagulls in January.

The Irons have had a tough season so far with the striker position arguably being one of the biggest issues for Julen Lopetegui.

Niclas Fullkrug has failed to have the desired effect at the London Stadium as injuries have hampered his ability to feature regularly this campaign.

With that being said, it would make sense to secure a short-term deal to bring in a new forward option in January to bolster the squad in East London.

Ferguson could prove to be an excellent signing on a temporary deal as the ex-Bohemians striker needs a pick-me-up after a lack of minutes this season under Fabian Hurzeler.

The Irish ace could be handed regular starts at the London Stadium and the chance to lead the line for the Hammers with Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen flanking him.

This could be the chance that the young forward needs to prove himself in the Premier League and the boost that Lopetegui requires.

In other West Ham news, a bargain transfer has been eyed at the London Stadium for a £54k-a-week midfielder.
