Brighton are unlikely to include a buy-clause in any loan deal for Evan Ferguson amid interest from West Ham, according to GiveMeSport.

The online source reported [19 December] that the Seagulls do not want to cash in on their 19-year-old superstar, suggesting that an option to buy, or an obligation, is increasingly slim.

It is understood, however, that if the player is to leave the Amex Stadium in January, the Hammers are leading the race to seal a temporary deal ahead of Southampton and Leicester City.

West Ham United to seal Evan Ferguson deal in January?

While the final third is the least of Julen Lopetegui's worries heading into the January transfer window, the Hammers are one player down following Michail Antonio's horrifying car accident.

Niclas Fullkrug is still acclimatising to the Premier League while Danny Ings has shown no signs of breaking into the starting XI, seeing Jarrod Bowen trusted through the middle once again.

The club captain deputised as a striker under David Moyes last season, which worked a treat, but his movement off the right flank should not be a long-term fix.

Of course, a six-month loan deal for Ferguson would only be a short-term answer to the Hammers' attacking problems but the spell might be enough to convince Brighton into a permanent move.

With only two Premier League starts to his name this season, it is no surprise to see him wanting a move away from the Seagulls in January and is capable of showing them what he is capable of.

He already has 17 goals in 78 appearances for the mid-table Premier League team, and with 18 international caps for the Republic of Ireland, it would be a brilliant move for Lopetegui and his staff.

Although he is a similar stature to Fullkrug, he is deceptively fast and could be the exact kind of figure needed to support the likes of Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Crysencio Summerville.
