West Ham bombshell: Sky Sports update denied as twist emerges
West Ham United have not submitted a written offer for Ezechiel Banzuzi despite what was reported by Sky Sports, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The renowned journalist posted on X (22 January) to deny reports from Sky that the Hammers and Banzuzi’s club OH Leuven had agreed a deal for the teenage attacking midfielder.
Leuven are suggested to have played down the claims Banzuzi is on his way to England, despite the initial report stating he was en route to the UK to complete a medical and seal the move.
There is however a widely reported interest in Banzuzi (TBR Football, 21 January) from the London Stadium, which could see a move take place before the 3 February transfer deadline.
Tavolieri shared: “OH Leuven denies any agreement with West Ham United regarding Ezechiel Banzuzi.
“For now, the Belgian club has not yet received any written offer from West Ham.”
West Ham not so advanced in Banzuzi pursuit
In a disappointing blow for Hammers fans, it appears their side have not yet agreed the fee with Leuven for Banzuzi after all.
While there remains every possibility a deal can be agreed between the Belgian outfit and Graham Potter’s men, Banzuzi for now stays on the continent until any further progress is made.
Sky’s report had claimed the Dutch Under-21 international was set to become a Premier League player within the next 24 hours, but it now remains a waiting game for supporters at the London Stadium to see if Banzuzi does end up becoming the first arrival under Potter.
The Irons are openly in the market for further reinforcements despite the heavy spending spree masterminded by Tim Steidten in the summer – many players from which have flattered to deceive so far in claret and blue.
Banzuzi, 19, has played over 50 senior games for Leuven, whom he joined from NAC Breda in his homeland – he made his debut for NAC aged just 16.
