West Ham advantage emerges in Evan Ferguson transfer race before deadline

West Ham could have the advantage in the race to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson with Graham Potter interested in the Irishman, according to The Telegraph.

The news outlet reported on 26 January that Potter's previous work with Ferguson could provide them with the upper hand in their bid to sign the striker on loan [TEAMtalk].

Potter is believed to be keen on the idea of a reunion with Ferguson and could make a move if he were to be made available for the remainder of the season.

West Ham are in dire need of attacking reinforcements this winter and Ferguson could be a shrewd option as the transfer deadline rapidly approaches.

Evan Ferguson signing makes sense for West Ham

Aside from the obvious links to Potter, it's a signing that makes a lot of sense for the Irons with his experience of playing in English football matched with his physical attributes.

Since the injury to Niclas Fullkrug, the Hammers haven't had that focal point in attack and it puts a lot of pressure on the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus to create something from nothing.

If Ferguson is to be made available for loan, Potter's connection could prove to be the difference in the race to sign the Irishman.

Whether it is a deal that materialises or not, West Ham need to sign a striker within the next week if they are to progress on the pitch as they simply can't enter the second part of the campaign with Danny Ings as their only striking option.

All eyes will be on the transfer window as rumours inevitably intensify.
