Carragher hits out at 'Sloppy' Vladimir Coufal for West Ham v Aston Villa

Jamie Carragher slammed Vladimir Coufal for giving the ball away too many times as West Ham rescued a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Irons started the game very slowly at Villa Park on 26 January, with Coufal failing to keep possession before losing Jacob Ramsey easily for the opening goal.

With Coufal utilised as a centre-back, he never looked comfortable in the game with Carragher disappointed by his early performance.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event [26 January, 16:40], Carragher said: "Sloppy start from Coufal, he's been lucky."

Coufal hasn't looked particularly convincing for the Irons all season and his newly found position as part of a back three is largely down to the lack of pace he possesses at full-back as well as the injury concerns.

In modern-day football, it's a necessity for your full-backs to be capable of getting up and down the line, something which Coufal has failed to do when deployed there.

However, given that is his preferred position, his weaknesses are exposed even further in a back three with his lack of pace then matched by a lack of physicality and defensive awareness.

The form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has all but forced the Czech international to lose his place at right back and given his desire to play regular minutes, his days at the London Stadium feel numbered.

With the high-intensity style of play preferred by Potter, Coufal simply doesn't have it in him anymore to perform at a high level with those demands in mind.
