West Ham would have been gleefully watching on as DR Congo secured a 1-1 draw against Portugal with Aaron Wan-Bissaka starting.

The fullback has been linked with a move out of E20, with Everton and Fenerbahce among his possible suitors.

Reports have suggested that West Ham are seeking £15million to £20m for the defender.

However, after the latest World Cup scenes, they may be in their right to look on the higher side of that spectrum, and perhaps even more.

While Daniel Kretinsky has downplayed the Hammers' need to sell this summer, the likelihood is that players of Wan-Bissaka's ilk will depart.

And if his first 2026 World Cup appearance is anything to go off, West Ham could have the upper hand in talks.

How Aaron Wan-Bissaka performed against Portugal

Heading into the game between Portugal and DR Congo, the former were certainly the favourites to secure all three points.

That was very much evident in the disparities in the possession stat with the European nation holding 75 per cent of the ball.

However, the African nation dug their heels in and produced an exceptional defensive display.

On the BBC's commentary, Danny Murphy was full of praise for the performance stating: "Although Portugal haven't been at it, you can't take anything from DR Congo. Defensively, they have been outstanding to a man."

And when it came to West Ham's Wan-Bissaka, he was right amongst the defensive action.

Throughout the game, the Hammers defender had more defensive contributions than anyone else on the pitch, with 10.

He completed seven clearances, made one interception and completed two tackles.

Additionally, he won 50 per cent of his total duels competed in throughout his 85-minute performance as per FotMob.

Overall, it was not an easy day's work for Wan-Bissaka, who had to deal with both Pedro Neto and Rafael Leao.

What is the latest on Wan-Bissaka's future?

Everton were said to be leading the race to sign Wan-Bissaka, but talk in that regard has since cooled down quite a bit.

However, that could be down to the ongoing World Cup campaign.

While there have been plenty of international stars making transfer moves, others do want to remain focused on their nation's tournament.

ExWHUEmployee has previously shared that alongside the Toffees and Fenerbahce, there is interest from Sunderland, Newcastle United and Fulham.

So there is certainly no shortage of possible destinations for the Irons defender in this summer transfer window.

And after DR Congo's 1-1 draw against Portugal, it has not harmed West Ham's chances of a high fee.
