Vladimir Coufal wants West Ham United exit considered amid fury over contract situation

Vladimir Coufal wants West Ham to consider transfer offers for him this month if they won’t give him a better contract, according to Sky Sports News.

Writing on their live transfer blog (2 January, 13:42), the news outlet report that the Czech Republic international is unhappy after the 12-month option in his contract was triggered rather than him being offered new and improved terms.

The Sun (31 December) reported that he was unhappy with the situation, but Sky Sports have now added that he could look to leave the club this month if a solution can’t be found.

“West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal is not happy with his contract situation and feels he deserves a better deal, Sky Sports News has been told,” they wrote.

“If a better deal is not forthcoming, it’s thought Coufal wants the club to consider any offers during the January transfer window.”

He’s right..

It’s not often that when a player speaks out publicly about his situation at the club, that fans will agree with him.

But Coufal is probably right when he says he deserves an improved contract at the club considering his excellent four years of service to a fairly high level.

Danny Ings is said to be on huge wages in comparison and Tomas Soucek was just handed a fresh deal at the London Stadium too, so there’s no reason why Coufal couldn’t have been afforded a similar deal.

His age may be seen as a bit of an issue but a two or three-year deal on improved wages would secure him for the prime years of his career and certainly wouldn’t stop the club from signing a new defender to eventually replace him.

Unfortunately the chances of a solution seem slim, but it’s far more likely that an exit would happen in the summer rather than mid-season when you consider that he has started every Premier League game so far this season.
