Tim Steidten to snub Evan Ferguson chance to sign Jonathan Burkardt at West Ham

Tim Steidten wants West Ham United to sign Jonathan Burkardt from Mainz, according to TBR Football.

The outlet reported via their website [10 December] that the technical director is confident that the 24-year-old can make an instant impact on English soil as the Irons target a new striker for the second half of the season.

With the German, who is under pressure after the Hammers’ underwhelming summer transfer business, keen to take the centre-forward to the London Stadium, a deal could now be on the cards in the January transfer window.

West Ham’s move for Burkardt could purely be down to Steidten as they have other strikers on their wishlist ahead of January.

Long-term target Yuri Alberto remains of interest to the East London outfit, with Corinthians now wanting a minimum fee of £16.6million [UOL].

West Ham also “appreciate” Evan Ferguson at Brighton, as per TBR Football. The Ireland international has been linked with a move away from the Amex Stadium in January after being restricted to just two Premier League starts this season.

Fabian Hurzeler has ruled out a January exit for the 20-year-old – even if it is on loan – but clubs across Europe’s top five divisions are keeping tabs on him ahead of January.

The Seagulls still value Ferguson at £60m, but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they let him leave on loan for the second half of the season.

Steidten, nevertheless, appears to have set his eyes on Burkardt, who, in fairness, is an attractive target.

The Germany international has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 13 league games for Mainz this season. Only Harry Kane and Omar Marmoush have found the back of the net more than him.
