Nuno could get his own Swiss Army knife as Arne Engels on West Ham radar
Nuno Espirito Santo could land a highly versatile player as West Ham have Celtic ace Arne Engels on their transfer radar.
Engels is a two-time Scottish Premiership title winner with Celtic, including a dramatic final-day clincher in the 2025-26 campaign.
The four-cap Belgium international played 30 league games for Celtic in the season just gone, starting 22 of those.
He netted five times and assisted three more, but there is plenty more to his game than that.
Indeed, Engels can play in a number of different positions, making him the ideal type of signing.
And it may well be that he is at the London Stadium next season amid a new transfer update.
Arne Engels one of numerous names linked with West Ham
Engels has two more years to run on his deal at Celtic Park and likely will not come cheap.
ExWHUEmployee reported via West Ham Way on Monday that Engels is firmly on West Ham's radar ahead of the transfer window opening.
Hayden Hackney of Middlesbrough and Jordan James of Rennes are two other names mentioned.
James is said to be available for an affordable fee, but Hackney is also wanted by Everton and Nottingham Forest and will be harder to sign.
Engels seems a more realistic signing on the face of it, and he would certainly add some experience in midfield - or wherever he is selected.
Engels plays primarily in central midfield, but he can also fill in as a holder, or right-back and right midfield.
West Ham summer targets starting to take shape
Being linked with a player and actually lodging a bid are two entirely different things, of course.
However, West Ham are being linked with similar calibre of players - such as those from leagues like the Scottish Premiership.
Championship players on the way up are also being linked, such as Hackney, but shopping outside of England may make more sense.
Engels has title-winning experience north of the border and that will come in handy for West Ham next season as they target top spot.
Nuno will surely like the sound of signing a player who can play in multiple positions, but the uncertainty above him means any moves may be on hold for now.
