Niclas Fullkrug medical update emerges at West Ham United as summer transfer nears

Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug has completed his medical with West Ham United, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Sunday (4 August) that the German international has now finished his medical with the Hammers as he closes on a summer transfer to the London Stadium.

Julen Lopetegui’s side will reportedly pay a fee in the region of £25.6million to sign the 31-year-old striker, as the former Real Madrid manager looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of his first season in charge in East London [Florian Plettenberg, 2 August].

Will Niclas Fullkrug exit Borussia Dortmund amid West Ham transfer rumours?

This transfer may have been on the cards for a couple of days already during the summer transfer window, but it still comes as a relief to hear that Fullkrug has managed to get through his medical without any problems.

The days of players failing because of a lack of fitness or underlying injuries are all but finished, but there is always a fear, particularly with older players that something could arise to put a transfer into doubt.

That doesn’t appear to be an issue for Fullkrug and Lopetegui may have now finally found a solution to the Hammers’ long-standing striker problem that has plagued several managers over the last few years.

He may be slightly older than the other targets considered by Tim Steidten’s recruitment team this summer, but he has a proven track record that he will hopefully be able to transfer into the Premier League.

With this signing now all but over the line, attention can turn to other new arrivals at the London Stadium and Lopetegui and Steidten look to put the finishing touches on the playing squad ahead of the new campaign.
