Nayef Aguerd to jet into UK for West Ham United medical as he’s released from Morocco squad

Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd is set to jet into the UK to undergo a medical with West Ham once he’s finished on international duty with Morocco, according to 2M.

The Moroccan TV station reported on 11 June that they’ve been told by a “well-informed source” that a “final agreement” has been reached for the 26-year-old to leave Rennes and head to the London Stadium.

This update came before it was reported by TFT Morocco that Aguerd has dropped out of the Morocco squad for their Africa Cup of Nations League qualifier against Liberia on Monday (13 June) and has been replaced by Achraf Dari.

TFT Morocco claims that Aguerd has been released from international duty early due to injury.

Hopefully not serious

If Aguerd is injured then it could cause a small issue with signing him.

However, unless it’s something serious, we doubt that it’ll cause any issues with the Hammers finalising a deal for the Rennes defender.

Medicals are only ever done to check for underlying issues that need sorting out.

A player could have tweaked his hamstring but a medical still isn’t going to be an issue for him.

However, the official line from Morocco might be that he’s injured when in truth, Morocco simply don’t need him for a match against Liberia and they might as well leave the defender out to ensure that he doesn’t get injured and his move to the London Stadium doesn’t break down.

Aguerd could have asked for permission to be left out to ensure everything runs smoothly and that no risks are taken.

We feel that’s the most obvious thing because it would be strange for Aguerd to be injured now, unless he’s picked something up in training.

In other West Ham news, a medical has been scheduled for another player to join the Hammers in just over a week.
