Mateus Fernandes has been linked with an exit from West Ham United, though a move to Real Madrid may now be in doubt.

The Portugal international was one of the very few positives for the Hammers last season, though for this summer, that has come at a cost

Fernandes has already attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs around the world

Real Madrid, PSG and Man United are among those said to be keen.

As a result, there has been an air of acceptance at the London Stadium that he will move on this summer.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Irons are seeking a fee upwards of £85million to sanction his exit, which could rule out a move to Real Madrid.

Not only was it reported on Wednesday that West Ham will require that much money, but also that Tottenham are in advanced talks.

The North Londoners are looking to revamp their midfield in a bid to avoid yet another relegation battle, and the West Ham star is believed to be one of their main priorities.

However, as per Marca, that could "complicate" a potential move to Real Madrid, who may struggle to afford a deal

They are also keen on Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, though the transfer does not seem feasible financially.

And with several Premier League clubs ahead of them in the race for Fernandes, it is said to be a potential hurdle for the LaLiga giants.

Will West Ham look to replace Fernandes?

In all honesty, there's a chance they don't. At least not directly.

The likes of Freddie Potts and Soungouto Magassa are likely to step up in the Championship, meaning any midfield arrival may be with the view to them being depth.

With that said, with several other exits expected, and high-profile ones at that, West Ham may look to reinvest some of the money received into players that can come straight into their starting 11.

For now, time is on their side in that regard.
