Man United claim emerges about Evan Ferguson after West Ham done deal
Manchester United should have swooped in to sign Evan Ferguson and hijack West Ham United’s move for the striker, Kris Boyd has said.
Ferguson, 20, joined the Hammers on Deadline Day on a loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion in a highly-rated mid-season deal, for whom he made his debut under Graham Potter in 2021 as a teenager.
Pundit and former striker Boyd argues Man United should have stormed in and convinced Ferguson to sign at Old Trafford instead of the London Stadium.
Boyd, speaking live on Sky Sports (3 February, 22:31), said: “If West Ham can attract Evan Ferguson, surely Manchester United could have got him?
“They haven’t fallen that far. Ferguson would do a better job than Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.”
West Ham beat Man United to Ferguson – even if they don’t know it
West Ham have had a quiet transfer window, especially in comparison to the rollercoaster of last summer when Tim Steidten was pulling the strings to mixed effect.
Ferguson needs a revival in his fledgling career having stalled in his progress at Brighton, leaving the Amex Stadium for new scenery but under a familiar coach who has been proven to get the best out of him.
The Hammers probably do, at this stage, have a more potent-looking attack than that of Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United, who spent heavily on underwhelming attacking players and were willing to sanction the loan exits in this window of Marcus Rashford and Antony.

Had Amorim and the Red Devils shown an interest then there would have been an intriguing decision for the towering Irishman to make, with a hypothetical opportunity on the table to become the next coming of the Ferguson name at Old Trafford.
You do get the feeling, however, that Ferguson can regain his confidence and be keen to run through walls for Potter and help improve the Irons’ attacking steel.
In other West Ham news, Celtic had shown last-gasp interest in a player who was on the pitch for the Hammers against Chelsea.
