Karren Brady relationship with Todd Boehly could sweeten deal for West Ham United to sell Declan Rice to Chelsea in 2023

Karren Brady’s relationship with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly could help sweeten the deal between West Ham and Chelsea for Declan Rice in 2023.

The Hammers skipper looks set to leave the club in the summer transfer window after years of speculation, with Chelsea already working on a deal and Liverpool also said to be interested in a deal too.

But while the race is said to be wide open to sign the 23-year-old, despite Rice’s preference to join Chelsea, journalist Simon Phillips believes that Boehly’s relationship with West Ham vice-chairman Brady could help to sweeten the deal.

“Chelsea are ready to fight to sign him, and we believe that some initial foundations have been laid,” he wrote on his substack account (4 December).

“He is a Chelsea priority for the summer. I’m told that Todd Boehly has good relations with West Ham’s Karen Brady, and there is a belief that this could help Chelsea’s cause. However, as I said above, West Ham want a bidding war.”

Milk them

If Brady has the ear of one of the richest owners in the Premier League, who is willing to splash the cash to get a player that he wants, then she should use that to our advantage.

It seems inevitable now that Rice is going to leave the club in the summer, especially given his most recent comments while at the World Cup about the Champions League.

All the top clubs in the country are interested and West Ham’s valuation is high, so anyone still in the mix is obviously willing to spend big.

For that we now have to ensure we get the absolute best price possible, and if that means Brady milking everything she can and leaning towards Chelsea being the team to get his signature on the dotted line then so be it.

The deal has to suit us more than anyone else and we have to use every advantage to ensure that is the case, so if he is to leave the club then Brady has to get to work too.
