Chelsea 'working on' deal for Declan Rice, West Ham United willing to take offers next summer
Chelsea are currently working on a deal for Declan Rice next summer, with a belief that West Ham are willing to take offers according to Simon Phillips.
Rice has been the subject of interest interest for the last two years with Chelsea among the clubs most interested in signing the Hammers skipper, but the club’s £150m valuation has so far put them off.
But with Rice entering a period of uncertainty at 24 years old by then and wanting to play Champions League football there has been a feeling he could leave next summer. And Phillips has written on his Substack that Chelsea are ready to make their move.
“Chelsea are also working on and discussing potential deals for Declan Rice at West Ham, Rafa Leao of AC Milan, and Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig,” he said.
“The latter is being discussed in the same negotiations as Nkunku right now.
“A Rice approach is expected next summer, with belief that West Ham will be willing to finally take offers.”
Rice has been imperious for West Ham ever since breaking into the team and it’s absolutely no shock that the club will make him the most expensive sale in the club’s history.
Rice will enter the final two years of his contract next summer and it will essentially be the perfect time for him to leave for the club to maximise value and for fans to be happy with what they’ve been offered by him.
Todd Boehly hasn’t been scared of splashing the cash since taking over with a world record window last summer, and it’s highly unlikely that a big fee will put him off bringing in Rice – especially if he wants to go too.
The club should now be planning for his exit next summer and making plans to ensure that he is replaced adequately with quality and that the club get the best deal.
We’ve all known it’s been coming for a while but it now seems as though we’re finally at the stage where Rice will be off in the summer.
