Journalist moots January West Ham bid to sign Liverpool striker Divock Origi live on talkSPORT
West Ham could sign Liverpool striker Divock Origi in the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.
Speaking via talkSPORT on Wednesday afternoon (8 December), Crook suggests close connections with the 26-year-old’s agent, Will Salthouse, could see a deal done.
He said: “Divock Origi is somebody I know they looked at in the summer, his agent has a very close connection, should we say, to the West Ham board so that is a transfer I could see happening in January.”
Whirlwind four days
Origi has just enjoyed a spectacular few days for Liverpool.
After a fairly unremarkable start to the 2021/22 campaign where he has been kept in the shadows behind the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, Origi has burst into life for the Reds with two big winning goals.
On Saturday (4 December), the Belgian scored in stoppage time to secure a 1-0 victory at Wolves and boost his side’s title hopes.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking afterwards [in a clip shared on talkSPORT], called the centre-forward an “incredible football player”.
Three days later, Origi was handed a starting berth against Italian giants AC Milan at San Siro.
After falling behind to a Fikayo Tomoro opener, Salah equalised in the 36th-minute before it was left to Origi to score the winner in the second half.
He’s riding the crest of a wave at the moment and looks like ideal competition for Michail Antonio at the London Stadium, but whether he wants to leave Liverpool in January as they target Premier League and Champions League glory, remains to be seen.
