Joel Piroe joins West Ham United with Leeds record that may never be broken

Joel Piroe has finally signed for West Ham United after quickfire speculation emerged all week.

After failing in a move to sign Troy Parrott from AZ Alkmaar, the Irons moved quickly elsewhere.

Nuno Espirito Santo wanted another striker before Pablo picked up an injury at Burnley, doubling the need.

Days later, Piroe has arrived at the London Stadium.

West Ham welcome the striker on an initial loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy, worth £12million in total.

Piroe has fired Leeds to promotion before, and that's what is needed to become a permanent Hammer.

While it may not have happened in the Premier League for him, this is a completely different story.

Piroe has taken the Championship by storm during his years at Leeds and Swansea City, as well.

In 179 appearances in the second-tier, the Suriname international has scored 73 times, and assisted 18 goals.

So, it's no surprise that he leaves Elland Road with records to his name.

In April 2025, Leeds were promoted back to the Premier League after a 6-0 win over Stoke City.

Piroe scored four goals in the first half alone, sending Daniel Farke and Elland Road into delight.

LUFC Data has shared on X that no other player has ever done that for Leeds, and may never do it again.

Where will Joel Piroe play for West Ham?

He may have been given the number nine shirt, but that's not all his game his suited too.

Piroe isn't the most athletic, but he has two strong traits to his game.

The first is being able to poach in the box, tapping home crosses and rebounds ahead of defenders who simply can't mark him.

Another is that he can drop deeper, get on the ball and dictate play out wide, which could see Jarrod Bowen and Manor Solomon thrive further.

With Taty Castellanos set to play higher up, running behind the lines and terrorising defenders, Piroe can shine in the gaps that leaves behind.

If there's one thing that Piroe knows what to do, it's find the back of the net, and he'll want to do that as soon as possible.

With Charlton coming to the London Stadium on Saturday, he'll be licking his lips already.
