James Tarkowski has already hinted at why West Ham should sign Dwight McNeil
West Ham are understood to be keen on Everton winger Dwight McNeil.
The former Burnley man has been a squad player under David Moyes, and could look for regular game time elsewhere.
Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on attacking reinforcements to ensure that his side can earn immediate promotion back to the Premier League.
A report from ExWHUEmployee claimed that the Irons are interested in the winger, if he is willing to play in the Championship.
They could strike a cheap deal to bring the Englishman to the London Stadium and help their bid to win the second tier.
His Everton teammate James Tarkowski has already shared insight into why the Hammers should make their move.
What did James Tarkowski say about West Ham target Dwight McNeil?
Tarkowski played with McNeil at Burnley and with the Blues, so he has plenty of insight into how good he is.
After Everton's 3-2 win over Newcastle in February, he opened up on his teammate's quality.
He said: “I thought he was terrific at the weekend and he stepped up another level tonight. The way he received the ball, carried it, his work rate. The way he was beating people.
“It was the Dwight I’ve known for five or six years but it’s nice people got to see him tonight get back to the player I know he can be. The next challenge is to do it week in, week out.”
How would McNeil perform in the Championship?
McNeil has struggled to get into Moyes' side in the top-flight, playing 33 times, with 14 of those coming off the substitutes bench.
He has notched 21 goals and 35 assists in 248 matches in the Premier League, but has never played in the second tier.
His numbers in the top division suggest that he could do a very good job at a lower level if he was signed.
Tarkowski's comments highlight his ability when he is on form, and he would surely have an easier time against less quality opposition.
It would not be too much of a gamble from the Hammers, especially if he could be picked up for a cheap fee and agree to a decent wage packet, that is not too expensive.
He can play off the left or the right, so he could step in for Jarrod Bowen if needed, and potentially replace Crysencio Summerville if he leaves.
He could prove to be a difference maker if Nuno's side can convince him to drop down a level.
The promise of regular playing time and a starring role may be enough, but it remains to be seen whether he would join a Championship outfit.
