West Ham United appear to have done pretty well to close in on the signing of Athletic Bilbao defender Adama Boiro.

News emerged earlier on Tuesday of West Ham being in talks to sign Boiro from Athletic.

Those talks now appear to have progressed to the next stage and it could solve a clear issue in Nuno Espirito Santo's ranks.

Boiro has not officially joined yet, but if he does so it will be a coup of sorts for the Irons.

That is amid a fresh update emerging out of Spain ahead of the 11pm deadline on Tuesday evening.

Adama Boiro a man in demand as West Ham chase deal

Boiro is a left-back who likes to get forward and will fill the void left by El Hadji Malick Diouf's recent switch to Brentford.

Ernesto Valverde regularly hailed him while in charge of Athletic, including earlier this year when saying the defender "has so many possibilities".

He has been backed to reach the top, but he is now aged 24 and will need to really push on soon.

As per a new update via Estadio TVE reporter Jose Manuel Monje via X on Tuesday, the full-back had multiple other options, including from Sabadell and Portuguese side Casa Pia.

But West Ham got the edge over the competition due to "economic reasons".

While the deal is an initial loan, there is every chance Boiro could stay at the London Stadium for longer.

What are the terms of Boiro to West Ham deal?

As previously reported, and pointed out by Monje, West Ham have the option to purchase Boiro at the end of the season.

With just 33 LaLiga appearances to his name, including one this season, there is not a lot to judge Boiro on.

Supporters cannot expect him to make as quick an impact as Diouf, but he certainly sounds promising.

And who knows, this time in 12 months it may prove to be a serious bargain if West Ham opt to make the move permanent.
