Henri Lansbury moots Jarrod Bowen 'injustice' as fate sealed at West Ham
Henri Lansbury isn't so sure that Jarrod Bowen has made the right call to stay at West Ham.
Exit rumours have surrounded the Hammers skipper ever since relegation was confirmed on the final day.
A new season back in the Championship looms as Nuno Espirito Santo prepares his side for the second tier.
It has been a quiet summer so far, not helped by the uncertainty surrounding various star names.
Mateus Fernandes is gone while Crysencio Summerville and Bowen have been strongly linked with moves elsewhere.
The captain has now confirmed his future at the London Stadium, but that may not prove to be the right call.
Henri Lansbury believes Jarrod Bowen should leave West Ham
There haven't exactly been too many concrete reports of interest in the 29-year-old.
The closest came as West Ham Zone covered Andy Goldstein telling talkSPORT that Bowen would be joining Aston Villa.
That myth has now been dispelled as the 22-cap England international has confirmed he will be staying in East London for the upcoming campaign.
His statement of intent has certainly gone down well in claret and blue as the chances of promotion now look to have taken a step up.
Someone who knows how to do exactly that is Lansbury, after helping the Irons to promotion via the play-offs in 2012, and he isn't sure that Bowen is making the right decision by staying in E20.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Lansbury said: "It's a tough one because he loves the club.
"I think it'll do him an injustice if he stays there, but obviously the fans want to keep him because he's their talisman.
"I think for him to get back in the England squad and start pushing again, he needs to get out of the Championship.
"He's a player with clear ability and is such a standout, it will be hard for him to let the club go, but I think it's the better choice if he does."
What has Bowen said about West Ham stay?
Lansbury may not be sure, but it doesn't appear that there was another thought in the captain's mind.
He looks set to sacrifice a year of his career away from the Premier League to help the Hammers get back there immediately.
Bowen has said that his decision was a "no-brainer" as "the vision is clear, it's the Premier League."
He went on to give an insight into how a deal was struck to keep him at the London Stadium.
The Englishman added: "I flew out to Prague in the Czech republic to meet Daniel and Jiri, and the ambition that I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction the club wants to move in, it interests me a lot.
"It didn't take a lot for me, because this club means a lot to me."
That is all every West Ham fan wants to hear as the captain and talisman has put the E20 club ahead of his own career which is just amazing to see.
