Gustavo Sa continues to be strongly linked with West Ham United.

The Irons have finally entered the market as they prepare for their immediate promotion push back to the Premier League.

Mateus Fernandes has been sold to Tottenham for £85million, which immediately protects the Hammers from their Premier League losses.

More sales are needed and expected, but Fernandes' exit does open the door for incomings to begin.

Quickly after, West Ham were said to have agreed a £17m deal to sign Sa from Famalicao in Portugal.

Now, the young midfielder has been spotted ahead of a long-term contract waiting for him at the London Stadium.

Gustavo Sa spotted in Portugal before West Ham transfer

It was media in Portugal that shared the Irons agreeing a fee for Sa, but not much has followed since.

O Jogo has now reported in its print edition on Tuesday that Sa was actually still training with Famalicao.

The newspaper went onto share that a five-year contract is awaiting him at the London Stadium to be signed.

With the summer break finishing and pre-season training finally returning for many, transfer talk is only going to ramp up.

West Ham also want another midfielder?

Nuno Espirito Santo has history with young Portuguese midfielders.

Ruben Neves springs to mind immediately, coming to the Championship and transforming himself into one of the Premier League's best while at Wolves.

Now, that's not to say Sa would do the same, but the possibility is there as a young-and-upcoming attacking midfielder.

But West Ham do have their eyes elsewhere.

Regardless of Portuguese media stating that Sa is bascially on his way to the London Stadium, that hasn't happened.

That would be hugely ambitious and unlikely, though, so Sa may remain to most likely link as of now.

One thing that's clear is the Hammers and Nuno clearly want an influential figure to replace Fernandes in the heart of midfield.

All eyes are currently on that transfer, but given Sa is in training, that long-term contract may be on hold for now.
