Freddie Potts transfer mystery deepens at West Ham United with medical not booked
Freddie Potts' proposed exit from West Ham may not be as advanced as it seemed.
The 22-year-old has been at the East London club since the age of six, and played 22 times in the Premier League last season.
The Hammers looked set to sell the academy ace for pure profit, in a £10.2million deal with Club Brugge.
It seemed as though it was simply just the formalities to be complicated, with a medical on the cards.
However, that may not be the case after a new update emerged from Belgium on Monday.
Potts and the Hammers will want clarity, and it could arrive shortly.
What is the latest on Freddie Potts' West Ham exit?
West Ham Zone shared reports that Potts was due for a medical with the Pro League outfit on Sunday.
However, the mystery surrounding his future has deepened and that appears to not be the case after a report from Het Belang van Limburg on Monday.
The Belgium newspaper reported in its print edition on 3 August that no agreement is in place and therefore no medical is scheduled.
It states that Belgian side are aiming to pay £8.5m for Potts, and that the general feeling is that the deal will still ultimately happen.
Why the Hammers are willing to lose Potts
There may be an interesting week ahead in terms of Potts' future, as the Irons will surely not take such a low figure.
The originally reported amount is much better, and is surely a benchmark for what Nuno Espirito Santo's side will be looking for
Some supporters will be angry that they are selling one of their best young prospects, and a player who knows what it means to play for the club, but it makes sense.
It would give them a very healthy financial situation, as it would mean that they have made over £150m this summer and some of that can be reinvested in the side.
It is unknown how much that figure is due to current wages and the issues that relegation brings, from a financial perspective, especially in terms of the regulations.
He could have been an useful asset for the team, but it looks like his future is elsewhere and it is just a matter of time before he seals an exit.
