Ferguson transfer: Brighton open door as West Ham make approach – Sky Sports

West Ham sent enquiries to Brighton about the signing of striker Evan Ferguson after the Seagulls gave the green light for the Irishman to head out on loan, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

Reporting via his X account [28 January], Sky Sports’ Sheth claims that the Irons have made an approach for Ferguson as they eye a reunion with Graham Potter [Telegraph].

The duo spent time together during Potter’s time with the Seagulls and has been said to be interested in bringing him to the London Stadium.

Sheth reported that Brighton have “opened the door” for his loan exit with West Ham one of several Premier League clubs to have expressed an interest.

West Ham signing Evan Ferguson is a no-brainer

The need for a new striker at the London Stadium has been evident for years and years but even more so with Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio both out with injuries.

It leaves Danny Ings as the only natural frontman for the Hammers, and it’s fair to say he has failed to contribute much to the season and if the Irons are to progress, they need someone capable of scoring goals and contributing to the general play.

Ferguson certainly fits that bill with his excellent level of physicality as well as his experience of playing in the Premier League.

His relationship with Potter could prove to be the deciding factor when Brighton decide on his move as they will be keen to see him play somewhere where game time is promised and somewhere he feels comfortable.

West Ham could certainly offer both sides of that agreement and it could only be a few days until a decision is made.

In other West Ham news, Jeff Stelling is “really surprised” by the transfer talk he has heard recently.
