Fabrizio Romano drops Lucas Ocampos West Ham update as done deal is announced in Spain

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that West Ham were never in talks with Lucas Ocampos after the completion of his move to Monterrey.

Sevilla have confirmed that they had reached an agreement with the Mexican outfit ahead of a move for the versatile winger.

The Hammers were said to be interested in a £5million deal the former Ajax loanee [Diario ABC] but no deal went through before the 30 August transfer deadline.

After moving to Liga MX, transfer specialist Romano reported via X on 3 September that the Argentina international never held talks with the Urons over a potential move.

West Ham never spoke with Lucas Ocampos

The two-time Europa League winner is a player who has commanded interest from a whole host of sides over the years for good reason.

Ocampos has the ability and capacity to play in a whole host of positions from striker to winger, centre midfield to wing back. He has it all in his locker.

This could have proved to make him a useful player in Julen Lopetegui’s squad at the London Stadium moving deeper into the Premier League season.

Being utilised as a more defensive-minded winger could have stood the Hammers in good stead with the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen all flying forward where possible.

A move never went through and Romano has suggested that any potential interest never materialised to result in talks.

The Irons added to their squad with plenty of fresh faces throughout the summer so potentially missing out on the Argentine isn’t the end of the world.
