West Ham have been offered the chance to sign former Torino and Nantes centre-back Koffi Djidji, according to Graeme Bailey.

The HITC journalist told TBR on 3 September that the 31-year-old, along with the likes of Merveille Bokadi and John Egan have been offered to the Hammers.

Talks have also been held with former Liverpool defender Joel Matip who's now a free agent as well.

West Ham must focus on signing Joel Matip

The Hammers must prioritise signing Matip over Djidji as his Premier League experience at Liverpool, brings a level of familiarity with the league's pace and physicality, which is crucial for immediate integration into the squad.

His tenure at Anfield, where he contributed to a team that won significant titles, including the Premier League and Champions League, indicates his capability to perform at the highest level under pressure.

This experience not only enhances his tactical understanding but also his leadership qualities, which could be invaluable in West Ham's backline.

Conversely, Djidji lacks top-tier European football experience, having played for clubs like Torino and Nantes.

His transition to a more competitive environment like the Premier League might be riskier, with adaptation challenges that could affect his performance and the team's stability.

Matip's proven track record in winning competitions and his free-agent status make him a more compelling choice for the Hammers, aiming to bolster their defence with reliability and success pedigree.
